About the Role

Google DeepMind is seeking a Research Scientist specializing in Reinforcement Learning (RL) and reasoning to join their Singapore-based team. This role involves advancing AI by developing novel RL algorithms and contributing to the broader research community through publications and collaborations. You will help push the frontiers of AI to address complex global problems, working alongside interdisciplinary teams in a high-impact, ethical environment focused on scientific discovery and public benefit.

Responsibilities

• Develop and propose innovative RL algorithms aimed at advancing systems such as Gemini, including scaling RL methods and optimizing inference compute.
• Engage in pioneering research on AI-driven autonomy and continual self-improvement.
• Identify emerging research opportunities and construct agendas around novel AI paradigms.
• Collaborate effectively to execute leading-edge research initiatives aligned with strategic goals.
• Communicate research results clearly through documentation, visualizations, and paper-quality narratives, fostering a team culture grounded in first-principles and rigorous feedback.

Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science or a closely related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• At least 2 years leading research projects with a focus on Reinforcement Learning or reasoning methodologies.
• Practical experience working with Large Language Models (LLM).
• Background in AI research labs and a proven record of first-author scientific publications in journals or prominent conferences.

Preferred Attributes

• Two or more years managing and guiding multiple research efforts, influencing research trajectories.
• Proven capability to drive projects from initial concept through to successful completion.
• Exceptional problem-solving, analytical acumen, and communication skills.
• Recognized research contributions evidenced by awards or outstanding publications in relevant AI domains.
