About the Role
A prominent international logistics firm is searching for a Compliance and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to join their team remotely. This position entails designing, executing, and optimizing health and safety programs across various U.S. locations, mainly focusing on packaging and warehousing. The manager will ensure adherence to federal, state, and local laws while fostering a preventative safety culture that mitigates risks, enhances operational efficiency, and safeguards employees, contractors, and visitors alike. This fully remote role requires extensive travel—between 50-75%—especially during the initial 18 to 24 months as programs mature, with travel primarily across Ohio and Alabama, and occasional visits to California, Pennsylvania, and Canada.
Key Responsibilities
- Craft and sustain thorough safety protocols tailored for packaging, warehousing, and distribution settings.
- Unify safety procedures across all U.S. sites while accommodating location-specific needs.
- Lead creation of training modules, standard operating procedures, and safety communication tools.
- Perform risk evaluations, job hazard analyses, and ergonomic assessments to reduce hazards.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA (with emphasis on California OSHA), DOT, EPA, and other regulations at federal, state, and local levels.
- Stay informed on regulation updates and proactively revise policies, programs, and training as needed.
- Conduct site audits, inspections, and reviews to monitor compliance, developing corrective plans and ensuring closure.
- Manage thorough documentation and reporting related to safety and compliance efforts.
- Oversee incident investigations and root cause analysis, implementing corrective measures.
- Analyze safety metrics to detect patterns and encourage continual improvement.
- Collaborate with site leadership to decrease injury rates, improve near-miss reporting, and enhance hazard awareness.
- Act as primary safety consultant supporting operations, HR, engineering, and leadership teams.
- Support new location launches, equipment setups, and process modifications from a safety perspective.
- Facilitate safety committees, promoting worker engagement in safety culture.
- Coach site safety coordinators or champions providing hands-on guidance.
- Design, deliver, and refine safety training for employees at all levels ensuring consistent onboarding.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience within warehousing, packaging, distribution, or manufacturing safety management.
- In-depth knowledge of Cal-OSHA/OSHA standards and current industry practices.
- Experience with EPA regulations and hazardous materials management.
- Proven expertise managing safety programs across multiple sites.
- Competence in conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Exceptional communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHMM, or OSHA 30/50 are advantageous.
- Experience with automated warehousing technologies, material handling, or packaging machinery.
- Background in implementing safety management systems or continuous improvement processes.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is a plus.
