Job description
The Opportunity
Join NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi as a Regional System Planner playing a crucial role in guiding the future of transport in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions. This is a permanent, full-time position where you will influence New Zealand's transport planning and policy, collaborating extensively with local governments, iwi, partner agencies, and stakeholders to develop shared, long-term transport system priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and guide complex transport and spatial planning initiatives for the region.
- Establish and nurture strong regional partnerships to align local and national transport planning objectives.
- Contribute actively to regional spatial planning efforts and integrate land use with transport strategies.
- Influence investment and policy decisions to ensure future-oriented and evidence-based transport outcomes.
- Support the capability development of teams through coaching and mentoring activities.
Candidate Profile
- Extensive experience in transport planning or strategic planning with proven success in leading complex projects and influencing diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in land-use and transport integration, spatial planning frameworks, and collaborative planning environments.
- Understanding of local government processes such as Regional Land Transport Plans (RLTPs) and Long-Term Plans.
- Ability to develop and implement future-focused strategies turning vision into actionable outcomes.
- Strong relationship management, influence, and engagement skills to build credibility across varied groups.
- Advanced analytical capabilities to employ evidence and insights in decision-making processes.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in planning, transport planning, geography, public policy or equivalent professional experience.
- Willingness to engage with and promote Te Ao Māori, tikanga, and Te Reo Māori along with an appreciation for Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
