Recreation Specialist - Outdoor Recreation

Job Overview

The Recreation Specialist will plan, organize, and facilitate various outdoor activities encompassing cross-country skiing, hiking, biking, canoeing, camping, trips, skeet shooting, park and range activities, mountain climbing, and overnight excursions. This role requires demonstrating proper techniques and instructing participants on equipment usage. Additionally, the specialist will coordinate with installation, county, and state officials to align programs and licensing requirements related to outdoor recreation. This position may also contribute to budget preparation and the development of five-year operational plans.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, schedule, and implement a variety of outdoor recreational activities.
• Provide instruction and demonstrate correct use of outdoor equipment to participants.
• Liaise with governmental authorities on program alignment and license obligations.
• Assist with annual budget planning and long-term program development.

Employment Conditions

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and special Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) events is essential.

Qualifications

• Relevant experience or a combination of experience and education demonstrating knowledge of recreation program principles and participant interests.
• Bachelor's degree in outdoor recreation and parks, recreation management, youth/public/urban/community recreation, or special population recreation is considered qualifying experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience instructing rock climbing.
• Expertise in multiple outdoor disciplines including rock climbing, hiking, paddlesports, and snowsports.
• Professional certifications in relevant areas such as rock climbing, hiking, paddlesports, and snowsports.
• Familiarity with the Rectrac Point of Sale system.
• Skills in maintaining ski and snowboard equipment, including base, edge, and binding care.
