Position Overview
This role involves receiving and delivering ordered goods, managing inventory, performing garbage disposal, and executing general housekeeping tasks at Wentworth Lodge. The successful candidate will work under the Director of Building Services and be part of a team committed to community health and safety.
Key Duties
- Receive, inspect, and store supplies and materials following standard procedures, including food orders and continence products.
- Manage storage of items across various departments as required.
- Collect and dispose of waste and recycling materials, ensuring cleanliness and disinfection of containers.
- Perform vacancy cleans and assist resident transfers, aiding families with transporting residents' belongings.
- Operate cleaning and maintenance equipment such as scrubbing machines, buffers, carpet and furniture cleaners, wet/dry vacuums, can washers, and pressure washers.
- Handle heavy waste disposal and recycling separation; maintain cleanliness of outdoor areas including parking lots, patios, and balconies.
- Diligently clean floors, walls, doors, ceilings, windows, furniture, and kitchen areas using proper chemicals and techniques.
- Prepare for special events by setting up and clearing spaces, managing draperies and privacy curtains, and stocking items like bar room refrigerators.
- Respond to inquiries from staff, residents, and suppliers professionally.
- Assist in emergency evacuations by transporting persons as needed.
- Adhere strictly to all relevant health and safety legislation and city policies.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in cleaning, ideally within a healthcare setting; receiving experience is beneficial.
- Familiarity with inventory control and stock management.
- Knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS related to cleaning chemicals.
- Competency operating various cleaning equipment and machinery.
- Physical capability to lift and maneuver objects up to 20 kilograms and move larger equipment such as hospital beds and filing cabinets.
- Clear and effective communication skills, with the ability to interact courteously with diverse groups including peers, supervisors, residents, and external contacts.
- Ability to interpret work orders and floor plans to coordinate special functions.
- Understanding and application of proper cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions precisely.
