Property Maintenance Official

Overview

This role involves specialized tasks in enforcing and overseeing compliance with zoning laws, land use policies, property upkeep codes, as well as health and safety standards. The position addresses issues stemming from natural disasters and other public safety concerns.

Key Responsibilities

• Support clerical duties such as preparing reports and official notices, answering phone inquiries, and coordinating with contractors, property owners, developers, and representatives from local, state, or federal agencies both onsite and from the office.
• Implement enforcement of the Property Maintenance Code along with other relevant municipal ordinances.
• Perform inspections at residential, commercial, industrial, and vacant sites to ensure adherence to erosion control, sediment control, and stormwater management plans.
• Identify violations during inspections and investigate complaints about property maintenance deficiencies, nuisances, and unsafe structures.
• Issue appropriate enforcement documents including violation notices, correction orders, and citations when necessary.

Qualifications and Licenses

• Completion of a high school education or equivalent GED certification.
• At least three years of experience in fields related to code enforcement, building inspection, law enforcement, environmental science, or civil engineering.
• Preferred certification as a Property Maintenance Official through the Department of Housing and Community Development, with willingness to obtain this if not currently certified.
• Preferred certifications as Stormwater Inspector and Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector, or commitment to acquiring them within a specified timeline.
• Capability demonstrated through a combination of education, certifications, training, or relevant experience to meet qualification standards.
• Possession of a valid driver's license is required.
