Role Summary
This role is for an experienced Project Manager to help deliver important ICT initiatives within a prominent Australian Government setting. The position involves leading medium- to large-scale projects that support Australia’s security and cyber capabilities.
In this role, you will guide cross-functional teams, oversee timelines, budgets, risks, governance, and stakeholder communication, and ensure the project meets its agreed goals. You will collaborate with senior leaders, technical experts, and business representatives in a demanding, fast-moving environment.
The position also includes providing strategic direction, coordinating project tasks, preparing executive-level briefs and reports, tracking project progress, and ensuring all work aligns with government rules, standards, and governance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of ICT projects from planning through execution in a government environment.
- Manage multidisciplinary teams and keep multiple stakeholders aligned throughout the project lifecycle.
- Track project schedules, budgets, risks, resources, dependencies, and governance obligations.
- Assess project health, surface emerging issues, and put suitable mitigation measures in place.
- Prepare executive briefs, formal submissions, reports, and governance documents.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders and communicate effectively with senior decision-makers.
- Apply recognised project management methods, governance practices, and change management approaches.
- Interpret and follow legislative, policy, regulatory, and organisational requirements.
- Handle competing priorities while using sound judgement to deliver in a complex environment.
- Manage requirements definition and traceability across the project delivery process.
- Oversee financial planning, forecasting, cost control, and financial reporting for projects.
Candidate Profile
- Proven background managing medium to large ICT projects in government settings.
- Solid leadership experience across multidisciplinary project teams and stakeholder groups.
- Hands-on capability in project scheduling, budgeting, risk control, resource management, and governance.
- Ability to analyse performance and resolve risks and issues using practical mitigation strategies.
- Experience producing executive briefs, submissions, reports, and governance artefacts.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder influence skills.
- Strong working knowledge of project management frameworks and change management.
- Ability to work within legislative, policy, regulatory, and organisational constraints.
- Comfort working under pressure and balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
- Experience with requirements management and maintaining traceability throughout delivery.
- Strong financial management capability, including budgeting, forecasting, monitoring, and reporting.
- Relevant tertiary study and/or project management certification such as PRINCE2, PMP, or Agile is strongly preferred.
- Applicants must be Australian citizens with a current AGSVA NV2 or TSPV security clearance.
