Job description
Role Overview
We seek an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of an HVDC power transmission project focusing on HV and EHV substations in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. The role involves end-to-end oversight of the project including planning, engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning while ensuring adherence to contractual and international standards.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all aspects of the HVDC project execution in compliance with contract terms and technical specifications.
- Develop comprehensive project plans, schedules, and budgets to guide successful delivery.
- Manage the complete lifecycle including planning, engineering, procurement, logistics, site installation, testing, and commissioning of HVDC systems.
- Coordinate integration activities for converter stations, substations, control and protection systems, as well as transmission lines.
- Identify and proactively mitigate potential project risks.
- Act as the main liaison with the client Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) and external consultants to ensure smooth communication and project alignment.
- Supervise subcontractors, suppliers, and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
- Facilitate regular progress review meetings and provide transparent updates to stakeholders.
- Review and approve engineering deliverables, technical documents, and method statements specific to HVDC systems.
- Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, CIGRÉ, and SEC standards throughout project execution.
- Support and lead testing and commissioning efforts including bipole testing and control system integration.
- Manage project finances encompassing budget control, cash flow monitoring, and resource allocation.
- Handle contract management tasks such as reviewing claims, variations, and correspondence.
- Oversee timely invoicing and payment processes to maintain financial health of the project.
- Lead and develop multidisciplinary teams across engineering, construction, health and safety, QA/QC, and commissioning departments.
- Promote a culture prioritizing safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations and client-specific requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Power Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
- 12 to 18 years of professional experience in power transmission projects, including 5 to 8 years focused on HVDC projects.
- In-depth knowledge of HVDC technologies including converter stations, valve halls, transformers, control and protection systems, and DC transmission lines.
- Proven experience managing large-scale EPC projects within the energy or power sectors.
- Familiarity with international standards like IEC, IEEE, and CIGRÉ, as well as client standards from SEC.
- Excellent project management, contract negotiation, leadership, and communication skills in English.
