Product Policy Manager, Search - Trust and Safety

About the Role

As a Product Policy Manager for Search within the Trust & Safety team, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams comprising product managers, data scientists, user researchers, operations, legal, and other stakeholders to develop policies and safety strategies for TikTok's Search and its features.

Key Responsibilities

• Proactively identify and evaluate content and product safety risks linked to new Search products, policies, and feature launches, utilizing solutions that enhance policy iteration and execution to maintain a secure content environment for users.
• Assist in the responsible rollout and development of Search functionalities aimed at improving content discovery and entertainment on TikTok.
• Collaborate closely with internal teams to monitor emerging trends or hazards and spearhead the deployment of appropriate safety measures.
• Deliver timely, professional safety-related insights to support new product feature introductions from the user safety viewpoint.
• Develop a profound understanding of Search-related features and enforcement protocols to aid in crafting, launching, and educating on effective user-generated content policies and safety practices.
• Partner with product teams to enhance community health and user safety through the optimization of product safety attributes and strategies.
• Research best practices in Trust and Safety, analyze current policies to spot inconsistencies or gaps, and devise corrective approaches.
• Establish goals and benchmarks working with cross-functional teams to continuously improve Search feature safety.
• Coordinate with product, policy, operations, legal, public relations, and public affairs teams to harmonize global feature policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years' experience in the technology sector, covering areas such as model training, policy development, program management, or risk evaluation.
• Strong analytical thinking skills related to policy along with experience collaborating with engineering, product, and technical design teams.
• Exceptional attention to detail, self-motivation, and result-oriented approach.
• Capability to work effectively with international partners across various time zones.
• Experience managing complex and sometimes graphic content material.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated skill in developing research methodologies and analyzing, synthesizing, and interpreting data.
• Experience in dynamic, fast-growing environments or in newly formed teams within large organizations.
• Ability to clearly present and advocate policy positions and foster consensus.
• Strong project management skills to oversee and synchronize multiple complex projects collaboratively, influencing stakeholders at all levels.

Trust & Safety Considerations

This position involves regular exposure to content including images, videos, and text involving everyday life topics, and potentially sensitive materials such as bullying, hate speech, child safety concerns, depictions of harm to self/others and animals, which can be psychologically and emotionally challenging.
