Role overview
HMP Erlestoke is hiring an Operational Support Grade (OSG) to help keep a busy prison operating safely and efficiently. This role supports the daily running of the site through a mix of security checks, visitor management, delivery handling, monitoring duties, and other operational tasks.
What the job involves
The position is active and varied. It includes both desk-based and hands-on work, such as carrying items, walking across the prison grounds, and escorting vehicles when required. You will be part of a team that helps maintain order, safety, and smooth operations throughout the prison.
Key activities
- Carry out security-related checks and searches at entry points.
- Handle incoming deliveries and monitor movement in and out of the prison.
- Supervise visitors and support front-of-house controls.
- Observe phone activity and CCTV as part of routine monitoring.
- Complete practical tasks that may involve lifting, carrying, and moving around the site.

Working pattern
This is a shift-based role and includes weekends as well as night shifts.

Pay and benefits
The advertised salary is £30,491. Alongside base pay, the role includes annual leave of 25 days on appointment, rising to 30 days after 10 years of service on a pro-rata basis, plus 9 days of bank, public and privilege holidays.
