Overview

This role focuses on providing outstanding service and financial advice to customers and prospects at BMO. The Personal Banker works closely with customers to understand their financial needs and offers tailored banking solutions, collaborating with branch and channel partners to enhance customer satisfaction and meet business goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively engage with current and potential customers to assess their financial needs and identify both immediate and future service opportunities.
  • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments, recommending personalized financial products including everyday banking, investments, lending options, home financing, and small business solutions.
  • Educate clients on digital and self-service banking options to simplify and expedite their banking experience.
  • Facilitate customer transactions efficiently based on traffic and demand.
  • Grow BMO’s client base by initiating outreach, scheduling appointments, and establishing new community relationships.
  • Manage consumer credit audits and quality checks to ensure compliance with lending policies, legal requirements, and data accuracy.
  • Apply the bank’s risk management framework to secure assets and maintain loan portfolio quality within established guidelines.
  • Make informed credit recommendations for personal lending including home financing, adhering to bank policies.
  • Collaborate extensively within the branch team and across markets to provide a unified customer service experience.
  • Incorporate marketing strategies and promotions organically into client discussions to address banking and credit card needs.
  • Maintain organized and accurate work information to ensure completeness.
  • Innovate to personalize the customer experience creatively.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements in customer service quality and business outcomes.
  • Adapt to flexible scheduling and work across multiple locations or channels as market needs dictate.
  • Adhere strictly to risk, compliance, privacy, and ethical protocols in all interactions.
  • Stay informed on financial services trends, legal regulations, and ethical standards to uphold professionalism.
  • Monitor and report any suspicious activities potentially linked to money laundering according to regulations.
  • Handle complex and varied tasks within defined rules and escalate as necessary.
  • Take measured risks guided by the Risk Management Framework to protect bank assets and support business goals.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Typically 2 to 3 years of relevant experience, preferably with a post-secondary degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completed registration to sell investment products as required by Canadian jurisdiction.
  • Possession of appropriate lending certifications and qualifications.
  • Familiarity with personal and small business financial needs and solutions.
  • Knowledge of retail investment and lending products.
  • Experience in financial services is advantageous.
  • Proficient and comfortable using social media, tablets, smartphones, and online tools.
  • Demonstrated success in consultative sales or customer service settings focused on providing a personalized experience.
  • Committed to helping customers with passion and dedication.

  • Self-motivated, confident, and courageous in approaching customers.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $36,600 to $67,500 per year, depending on factors such as location, experience, qualifications and may include commission components. Part-time roles are paid pro-rata. The total compensation package may also involve performance bonuses, discretionary rewards, health insurance, tuition reimbursement, accident and life insurance, and retirement savings plans.
