About the Role and Company
Join NEC Software Solutions in Athlone, County Westmeath, to contribute to a meaningful healthcare initiative as an Optical Assistant within the Retinal Technicians team. This permanent, onsite role is focused on performing eye photography to detect retinal damage linked to diabetes complications. Team and Support
You will be integrated into a national diabetic eye screening program, collaborating with experienced Senior Diabetic Retinal Technicians, Team Leaders, administrative personnel, programme managers, and clinical leads. The environment fosters growth and continuous learning, ensuring you have reliable expert guidance throughout your journey to specialization in retinopathy.
Key Responsibilities and Skills
The role involves conducting eye photography sessions to aid in the identification and analysis of retinal conditions caused by diabetes. While no prior experience is mandatory, the position requires a keen commitment to patient care, excellent communication, and the ability to work independently after initial training. Proficiency with IT tools such as word processing, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office is essential, alongside initiative-taking and organizational skills.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Experience not necessary; suitable for individuals stepping into healthcare or expanding healthcare skills.
- Possession of a valid, clean Irish driver’s license and secure storage for a company vehicle.
- Strong passion for delivering excellent patient care.
- Computer literacy including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) competence.
- Good problem-solving abilities and prioritization skills.
- Proactive mindset with an excellent work ethic for largely unsupervised work post-training.
- Effective communication skills across various levels.
