Role overview

Sonora Resort, part of Relais & Châteaux, is hiring a reliable overnight team member for a blended position that combines night auditing with janitorial support. This is a seasonal island role at a luxury resort in British Columbia, with a work pattern designed around independent overnight operations and guest care.

Work location and seasonal setup

The resort is situated on Sonora Island, a remote island between Vancouver Island and the west coast of British Columbia. It is roughly 1 hour and 15 minutes by boat from Campbell River, and there are no extra amenities on the island. The operation runs seasonally from May 1 to October 15, and candidates must be able to remain available through late October.

Staff are provided with private bedroom accommodation and meals on all working days. Rooms come fully furnished and include a TV, Wi‑Fi, phone, and mini-fridge, while the bathroom is shared between two rooms. Employee areas include a lounge with a large-screen TV, games space, fitness facilities, and an outdoor hot tub area.

Schedule and rotation

This hybrid role runs on a two-week-on, one-week-off rotation. During the working period, the employee lives on the island. After the rotation ends, transportation is provided to Campbell River, and staff are expected to leave the island during their week off and arrange their own accommodation and travel for that time. In busy occupancy periods, longer stretches may occasionally be necessary.

• Week 1: Night Janitor, 8-hour shift from 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM
• Week 2: Night Auditor, 10-hour shift from 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM

Night Auditor responsibilities

The night audit portion of the role focuses on balancing financial activity, supporting guest needs, and ensuring the resort remains secure and ready for the next day.

• Match nightly receipts and reconcile cash and card transactions
• Close out and balance property management system modules
• Investigate discrepancies and escalate unresolved issues to the Operations Manager when needed
• Enter guest information, fishing licences, and related data
• Prepare and send the nightly occupancy report to management
• Complete the overnight security report
• Answer the main telephone line and help with guest questions
• Prepare and issue keycards
• Arrange wake-up calls when required
• Remain available to handle guest concerns or complaints professionally at any time during the shift
• Work with the Health & Safety officer on any medical-related matters
• Inform the Operations Manager about unusual guest behaviour, special requests, or complaints
• Represent the resort in a courteous, polished, and guest-facing manner

Night security and building care

• Secure and lock resort buildings overnight
• Respond to hourly security calls
• Carry out regular patrols across guest, public, staff, and perimeter areas, including wildlife monitoring
• Keep an eye on resort camera systems
• Monitor noise levels in staff accommodations
• Spot and report maintenance or safety issues
• Reopen buildings before the start of the next business day
• Assist with minor event setup or dining room preparation
• Perform light cleaning duties as needed

Night Janitor responsibilities

The janitorial part of the role is focused on maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and presentation across public areas while working independently overnight and coordinating with the Night Auditor.

• Carry out deep cleaning of common areas to uphold strong hygiene and sanitation standards
• Clean dining lodge floors, spa areas, and public washrooms
• Sweep, scrub, vacuum, and mop floors throughout the property
• Handle garbage and recycling in line with environmental practices
• Support laundry operations by sorting, folding, and pressing linens
• Respond quickly to guest requests such as cots, cribs, and extra towels

Candidate profile and qualifications

The resort is looking for someone who is dependable, self-driven, adaptable, and comfortable working overnight in an isolated environment. The role suits a person who can operate independently while still coordinating smoothly with others when needed.

• Strong reliability and self-motivation
• Good computer skills
• Experience using property management systems; Opera Cloud is considered an advantage
• Basic knowledge of accounting and financial processes
• Prior guest service experience
• Ability to operate small electric resort vehicles
• Legal eligibility to work in Canada is required
• First Aid and AED certification would be an asset

Compensation and benefits

• Hourly pay of $22.50 for Night Audit shifts
• Hourly pay of $21.00 for Night Janitor shifts
