About the Role
Join a forward-thinking financial services company dedicated to transforming personal finance with innovative, mobile-first solutions. This position is part of the expanding Mortgage Operations team based in Charlotte, NC or Frisco, TX, focusing on analyzing Conventional and FHA loan applications thoroughly using independent credit judgment. The role demands accuracy, adherence to compliance standards, and swift processing in a high-volume environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Evaluate mortgage applications in line with investor and government-sponsored entity guidelines.
- Conduct in-depth reviews of borrower credit profiles, income verifications, and collateral assessments, including detailed calculations for self-employed applicants.
- Perform Schedule L liquidity evaluations for business entities, adjusting for inventory-intensive operations.
- Make prompt, compliant underwriting determinations aligning with company and investor standards.
- Handle a demanding workload aiming for five or more fresh credit decisions daily while upholding quality control benchmarks.
- Collaborate effectively with loan processors and officers to address outstanding conditions and maintain smooth loan processing.
- Recognize and escalate potential fraudulent activities or deviations from guidelines.
- Utilize expert knowledge of Desktop Underwriter (DU), Loan Prospector (LP), and FHA Connection systems along with investor-specific overlays.
- Engage in ongoing process enhancements through teamwork and open feedback channels.
Candidate Requirements
- At least two years recent experience underwriting Conventional and FHA mortgage loans.
- Strong analytical skills paired with sound independent risk assessment capabilities.
- Proficiency with DU, LP, and FHA Connection underwriting platforms.
- Expertise in analyzing self-employment income and conducting Schedule L liquidity assessments.
- Deep understanding of credit policies, financial statement examinations, and property valuations.
- Excellent communication skills to clearly articulate complex underwriting scenarios.
- Experience balancing high-quality control with substantial production throughput.
- Preferred knowledge of Texas lending particularities.
- Willingness to work a hybrid schedule including two days weekly onsite in Frisco, TX.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
- Active SAR or VA credit authority.
- Current FHA Direct Endorsement certification.
- Experience with Jumbo or USDA loan underwriting.
- Possession of a college degree.
- Background in fraud detection or risk prevention.
