Position Overview

The Merchandise Planner role at Brilliant Earth is an integral part of the Merchandising & Planning team, focused on crafting robust sales and inventory strategies across diverse product categories. This position reports directly to the Associate Director of Merchandise Planning and acts as the key communicator between merchandising, operations, and finance groups to optimize inventory investments, ensuring maximum profitability and customer satisfaction. The role involves leading inventory planning efforts, setting forecasting approaches, and steering strategic planning to support company growth.

Inventory Planning Responsibilities

Oversee merchandise planning for various product categories contributing to overall category performance.
Manage the intricacies of fine jewelry inventory, including diamonds and gemstone assortments.
Lead the strategic inventory preparation for launch of new showrooms and business ventures.
Define inventory metrics such as weeks of supply, safety stock levels, and reorder triggers.
Identify improvement opportunities to enhance inventory efficiency and minimize excess stock without compromising service quality.
Engage in cross-departmental meetings to review inventory status and establish aligned action plans.

Forecasting and Financial Planning

Drive the weekly forecasting process to determine ideal inventory across sales channels.
Support the Open-To-Buy (OTB) process by translating financial plans into actionable purchasing strategies, coordinating monthly OTB frameworks, and aligning category budgets across teams.
Work closely with merchandising to generate and maintain thorough sales forecasts, inventory plans, scenario models, and informed buying recommendations to optimize assortment and profitability.
Develop scenario models to assess potential business outcomes and contingency plans.

Analytics and Reporting

Create detailed analytics frameworks and models to assess business performance indicators.
Ensure precise analysis, reporting, and forecasting to meet inventory targets and goals.
Conduct advanced statistical analysis supporting Planning and Merchandising departments.

Candidate Profile

Preferred educational background: Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Minimum five years of experience in quantitative analysis, inventory planning, or forecasting within retail, product, or e-commerce environments.
Experience in attribute-based or commodity inventory planning (precious metals, gems, or specification-driven products) is advantageous.
Allocation or store planning experience is a plus.
Advanced proficiency in Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, financial modeling, and managing extensive datasets for inventory and sales insight.
Familiarity with planning and reporting tools such as Domo or NetSuite is favorable.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, accountability, time management, and a drive toward process optimization.
Critical thinking abilities, adaptability, collaboration mindset, and self-motivation.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
