Role overview
The Detroit Regional Chamber runs a broad portfolio of talent and education initiatives, alongside policy efforts, designed to improve postsecondary attainment and economic mobility in Southeast Michigan. This position sits within that work and focuses on helping Detroit Promise students stay connected, supported, and on track through college.
The Student Support Manager leads the strategy for student resource navigation, engagement, and belonging across the full student journey. Working through a team of Student Support Coordinators, this person helps ensure students can access campus, community, and organizational resources that strengthen persistence, completion, and overall success. The role also supports smoother transitions from high school into postsecondary education and helps increase awareness of available support services.
What you will do
- Direct student resource navigation and engagement activities across the student lifecycle.
- Manage and coach Student Support Coordinators.
- Build strategies for connecting students with campus and community resources.
- Track how students use support services and identify trends in resource needs.
- Lead initiatives that improve student engagement and sense of belonging.
- Support transition planning from high school to college.
- Review student support data and recommend process or program improvements.
- Work with the Student Navigation and Partnership Engagement teams to respond to student needs.
Qualifications and work expectations
This role is grant funded and can continue only while external funding remains available. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, innovative, and able to respond quickly to changing program needs during implementation. Timely handling of data requests and processes is important, as is strong communication across partner organizations and effective use of shared resources.
The role requires frequent fieldwork, including visits to colleges and community resource sites. A valid Michigan driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel outside the office are required.
Education and experience
- Master’s degree with 1 to 2 years of experience in college success programs, or
- Bachelor’s degree with 3 to 5 years of experience in college success programs.
- Experience in college access or a related student success program is considered an advantage.
