Job Overview
This position involves installation, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, operation, and maintenance of electrical systems related to power distribution and generating equipment. The Journeyman Electrician will ensure continuity of power to telecommunications devices and upkeep of the facility's electrical distribution network. Supervised by the Maintenance Supervisor, effective verbal and written communication skills are essential. The role includes programming tasks such as OMDAC – SWACA.
Working Hours and Contract Details
- Work schedule: 6 days per week, 12-hour shifts totaling 72 hours weekly.
- Contract Duration: 1 year with possible extensions.
- CRC is unpaid time.
- Vacation and sick leave available post issuance of Kuwait Visa 18.
- Company provides housing and transportation.
Primary Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair wiring and electrical devices, including distribution panels, transformers, motor controls, and related wiring systems.
- Install connections from on-site generators to remote electrical distribution systems, including panels, breakers, conduits, and wiring.
- Provide technical assistance for UPS, generators, and HVAC electrical components.
- Inspect and maintain all electrical systems including appliances, outlets, emergency lighting, GFI circuits, and fire alarm systems.
- Conduct startup and operational tests on generators, switchgear, and transformers.
- Install or repair a variety of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, UPS devices, switchboards, and related infrastructure using blueprints and technical drawings.
- Diagnose electrical faults and perform calculations related to load requirements, utilizing hand tools and testing instruments.
- Apply working knowledge of secondary power distribution, lighting systems, access control, lightning protection, and grounding.
- Adhere to MIL standards and support Department of Defense customer requirements.
- Manage generator power systems up to 380 volts, follow British electrical code standards, and work with facility UPS systems including rack-mountable units.
- Support HVAC electrical system troubleshooting and repair.
- Perform other assigned duties as necessary.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum high school education or equivalent; one year related experience may replace one year of education if required.
- At least 5 to 7 years of electrical wiring experience, including design and installation of electrical distribution systems compliant with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Experience must cover commercial and industrial electrical installations, with no more than 75% in a single category.
- Management or supervisory experience is preferred.
- Proficient understanding of secondary and interior electrical systems, service entrance conductors from the transformer low voltage side.
- Hands-on expertise with electrical circuits, power cables, motors, conduit bending, and controls.
- Ability to use tools, test equipment, read blueprints, draft single-line diagrams, and create rough shop drawings.
Certifications
- Graduation from an accredited trade school or completed apprenticeship program.
- Possession of a valid State Journeyman Electrician card.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Work conducted in operational settings in Southwest Asia, possibly requiring extended and unusual shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Exposure to extreme hot and cold weather.
- Physical fitness mandatory; ability to wear PPE such as helmets, body armor, fire-resistant clothing, and hard hats.
- Travel within the theater expected up to 60% of the time.
- Must be capable of lifting loads up to 50 pounds.
