Job description
Job Overview
We are looking for an imaginative and knowledgeable Interior Design faculty member to instruct undergraduate and diploma students. The ideal candidate should combine strong theoretical expertise with practical industry experience and excel at mentoring students in various aspects of interior design including design principles, space planning, materials, furniture design, CAD software, and execution of projects.
Primary Duties
- Deliver engaging theory lectures and practical studio sessions related to Interior Design.
- Instruct topics including Design Fundamentals, Space Planning, Furniture Design, Building Materials, Construction Techniques, Interior Services, Sustainable Design, and relevant design software such as CAD, SketchUp, AutoCAD, Revit, 3ds Max, and Lumion.
- Develop lesson plans, assignments, exams, and assessments.
- Guide students through designing their projects, portfolios, and presentations.
- Organize workshops, seminars, and industry guest interactions.
- Provide mentorship for internships and final projects.
- Keep abreast of latest trends, technologies, and industry standards in interior design.
- Engage in curriculum development, accreditation processes, and departmental roles.
- Maintain thorough academic documentation and ensure timely evaluation of student work.
Qualifications
- Essential: Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design (B.Des., B.Sc., or B.Voc).
- Preferred: Master's Degree in Interior Design, Design, Architecture, or allied fields.
- NET/SET qualification is advantageous wherever applicable.
Experience
- 2 to 5 years of teaching and/or professional work experience within the industry.
- Fresh postgraduates demonstrating strong portfolios may be considered.
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent design and visualization capabilities.
- Proficiency with software tools such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Office, and presentation software.
- Strong communication and classroom management skills.
- Ability to develop student portfolios and mentor effectively.
- Up-to-date knowledge of interior design trends with an emphasis on sustainability.
- Encourages creative and critical thinking skills in students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant industry certifications for design software.
- Experience in academic administration or curriculum enhancement roles.
- A solid professional portfolio demonstrating design expertise.
- Background in research, publications, or exhibitions is beneficial.
