Housekeeper

Role overview

This position is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and orderly environment across the facility. The selected candidate will carry out routine housekeeping and environmental service duties to support a safe setting for employees, clients, and visitors.

Key duties

• Sweep, mop, and disinfect floors and surfaces.
• Clean drinking fountains, furniture, light fixtures, windows, walls, and woodwork.
• Operate vacuum equipment and shampoo carpets when needed.
• Collect and remove trash.
• Help restock linens in the linen room.
• Finish assigned work within the expected time limit.
• Complete environmental service compliance checklists when requested.
• Maintain building equipment and work areas in line with JCO, state, and local safety standards.
• Handle other related duties as assigned.

Work conditions and requirements

Mandatory overtime may be required. Selected applicants must pass a chemical urinalysis and breath alcohol screening. The agency also conducts drug and alcohol testing when probable cause exists, according to bureau and agency policy. This is a tobacco-free campus. Employment is also contingent on passing a background check.

No formal education, certification, or prior experience is required for this role.

William R. Sharpe, Jr. Hospital is a 200-bed acute psychiatric care facility in Weston, West Virginia, operated by the West Virginia Department of Health Facilities. The hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission and certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). It serves patients admitted through civil commitment or judicial orders in forensic cases, and works with medical and clinical partners to support patients’ transition back into the community after discharge.
