Position Overview
The Healthcare Assistant role involves supporting clients in maintaining a safe and comfortable life at home. Duties include providing personal care such as bathing, dressing, managing incontinence, meal preparation, and light housekeeping. The position offers full-time and part-time schedules including weekdays, evenings, and weekends, with locations primarily in Dublin 3 including Clontarf and Killester areas.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to the latest safety protocols, especially regarding moving and handling of individuals.
- Raise any concerns about client or colleague safety or care practices to management promptly.
- Report any suspected safeguarding issues to supervisors without delay.
- Maintain accurate and factual daily records of all tasks completed during shifts.
- Ensure strict confidentiality at all times.
- Participate in mandatory training and operate within professional and safe boundaries.
- Perform all client-related tasks such as medication prompts, personal care, and meal preparation with respect and dignity.
- Support clients' independence and decision-making abilities.
- Engage in regular communication with clients throughout the shift, respecting their cognitive and verbal capacities.
- Attend scheduled shifts punctually and inform the office in a timely manner if unable to do so; direct contact with clients regarding absences is prohibited.
Qualifications and Training
- Possession of a QQI Level 5 Healthcare Award or equivalent qualification.
- Completion of additional training modules including: Children's First, Safeguarding, Dementia Care, GDPR, Infection Prevention and Control basics, Hand Hygiene, and proper use of PPE in community healthcare (all through HSE LAND and AMRIC platforms).

- Competency in basic patient care activities such as bathing, dressing, and feeding.
- Assistance with client mobility and exercise routines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with active listening.
- Capability to follow detailed instructions and healthcare protocols.
- Ability to provide emotional support and companionship to clients.
- Familiarity with healthcare equipment and devices relevant to caregiving.
- Effective time management and prioritization of tasks during shifts.
- Empathy, compassion, and responsiveness to clients' emotional needs.
- Team collaboration skills and support for colleagues in a healthcare setting.
