About The Role
Uproot is searching for a proactive General Manager to oversee and enhance daily cannabis operations and expansion efforts within our Worcester and Central Massachusetts businesses, including Magic Dragon. This position requires a hands-on operator who is actively involved in improving weekly business functions such as inventory management, purchasing, menu and category optimization, delivery support, operating system development, team management, and identifying new growth avenues.
This is an on-the-ground leadership role that occasionally involves direct frontline participation. The General Manager must be prepared to assist with delivery, customer service, inventory tasks, order processing, vendor relations, or other operational activities as necessary.
The ideal candidate possesses solid cannabis industry expertise, strong operational discipline, and sound business judgment that balances compliance with customer satisfaction, profitability, and efficiency. You should be adept at moving seamlessly between the sales floor, menu planning, vendor management, inventory oversight, delivery logistics, production priorities, and weekly key performance indicator (KPI) assessments.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily cannabis operations including inventory control, purchasing, menu and category performance, vendor coordination, and customer experience enhancement
- Lead Magic Dragon’s growth initiatives and service quality improvements, covering delivery operations, customer recovery, order flow, promotions, and localized market execution
- Provide frontline operational support when necessary, including delivery and customer service tasks and hands-on order fulfillment
- Maintain rigorous inventory discipline through intake processes, audits, managing product aging, sell-through tracking, menu accuracy, pricing strategies, product bundles, margin analysis, and reorder planning
- Oversee buying and category management involving product assortment, vendor relationships, wholesale opportunities, customer education, and promotional tactics
- Develop and maintain operating procedures including SOPs, staff accountability frameworks, checklists, reporting processes, and a regular weekly business review rhythm
- Guide team leadership functions including hiring assistance, onboarding, scheduling input, training, coaching, and performance management
- Coordinate manufacturing-related activities such as production priorities, packaging, edible/kitchen product opportunities, and prospective brand development
- Ensure operations comply with Massachusetts cannabis regulations and company policies
- Collaborate directly with company ownership on setting priorities, conducting experiments, reporting progress, and strategizing growth
Candidate Profile
- Proven hands-on experience in the cannabis industry, preferably within Massachusetts
- Background in cannabis retail, delivery, inventory management, manufacturing, wholesale, buying/category management, or general operations
- In-depth understanding of how cannabis menus, vendors, inventory, profit margins, regulatory compliance, and customer demand interact
- Capability to lead people and manage processes without relying on flawless corporate frameworks
- Comfortable utilizing KPIs and weekly operational routines to drive business improvements
- Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and reliable follow-through on duties
- Willingness to contribute to frontline delivery and customer operations work when required
- Ability to work primarily within Worcester and Central Massachusetts areas
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with cannabis/commercial software systems such as METRC, Dutchie, LeafLink, BioTrack, Jane, Flowhub, Alpine IQ
- Background in cannabis delivery, dispatch, retail, menu/category management, or wholesale/vendor relations
- Familiarity with cannabis production, kitchen operations, edibles, packaging, or manufacturing environments
- Previous responsibility managing profit and loss, labor planning, procurement, inventory controls, category performance, or weekly operational dashboards
- Knowledge of Central Massachusetts cannabis consumers, retailers, brands, and community dynamics
Role Suitability
This position is not suited for individuals seeking purely branding, social media, remote-only strategic roles, or management positions detached from daily operational execution. We seek a leader ready to assume ownership, responsibility, and immersive hands-on management.
Why Join
This role offers the chance to shape a developing cannabis enterprise where a strong operator can create tangible, visible impacts. You will collaborate closely with ownership, develop sustainable systems, and help define successful cannabis delivery, retail, category, and manufacturing strategies in Central Massachusetts.
Compensation
The base salary ranges from $60,000 to $80,000 annually based on experience and scope, complemented by performance incentives tied to growth, margin, inventory management, service quality, and operational benchmarks.
