Job description
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Field Service Technician II who thrives on problem-solving, traveling, and working with advanced mechanical and electrical systems. This role involves providing comprehensive field support including commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and retrofit tasks. The technician will closely collaborate with various internal departments and client personnel to ensure project success.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather and compile operations and maintenance (O&M) information.
- Communicate critical O&M details throughout project phases.
- Assist in assembling the final Installation, Operation, and Maintenance (IOM) manuals.
- Provide feedback based on field observations for continuous improvement.
- Prepare accurate and clear "red-line" drawings for submission to Project Managers.
- Manage timely hand-offs from construction teams.
- Lead and direct field commissioning activities for mechanical project components.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment issues efficiently.
- Document commissioning processes for mechanical and electrical systems.
- Work closely with Field Engineers, Project Engineers, Managers, and client representatives.
- Support Production Department with assembly tasks and training of factory staff.
- Participate in Quality Assurance and Control procedures, performing or overseeing QC checks as needed.
- Fulfill additional tasks assigned by management.
Qualifications and Skills
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including MS Project.
- Experience with at least one PLC or building control brand.
- Capable of working independently on job sites.
- Preferred HVAC trade school education or apprenticeship; military training or equivalent technical experience considered as an alternative.
- Extensive field project experience in construction support, commissioning, repair, and maintenance required.
- Familiarity with compliance verification for ASHRAE, ASME, and applicable standards.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively both domestically and internationally.
- Comfort and capability to work under field construction conditions.
- Possession or ability to obtain safety certifications such as OSHA10 General Construction and NFPA-70E.
- Maintain a clean and safe driving record.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position requires approximately 80% travel, including international destinations. Candidates must be able to occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force and frequently perform fine motor activities like typing and using tools. Physical activities include sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Adequate vision, including color perception and depth perception, is essential for data analysis, equipment operation, and extensive reading. The work environment mainly consists of indoor conditions but may also include onsite field environments.
