Role Overview
Our Social Infrastructure team is seeking a competent and detail-focused Estimator based in Swanley, UK. This pivotal role involves precise evaluation of project costs and preparation of competitive bids for our social housing clients. Experience in this sector is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine project specifications, drawings, and related documents to produce accurate cost forecasts.
- Work collaboratively across departments to ensure tender submissions are well-priced, commercially viable, and technically detailed.
- Build and maintain robust relationships with clients, suppliers, and relevant professionals to encourage successful tenders and new opportunities.
- Compile and present detailed tender cost breakdowns while adhering to strict timelines throughout the bidding process.
- Assist in the smooth handover from tendering to project execution teams through effective communication.
- Keep abreast of market developments, including material and labor cost fluctuations, to ensure current pricing knowledge.
- Identify potential risks and opportunities within estimates; provide strategies to mitigate risks and enhance value.
- Participate in refining estimating procedures to boost accuracy and efficiency.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- At least five years' experience in construction, ideally focused on social housing projects.
- Familiarity with JCT and ACA contract suites.
- Capability to extract quantities from design drawings, interpret specifications, and prepare Bills of Quantities.
- Strong analytical and numerical abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
- Proficient with estimating software or a quick learner of such tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, confident in negotiating and articulating complex information clearly.
- Ability to manage pressure and meet challenging deadlines in a dynamic workspace.
- Effective organizational skills to oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
- Relevant qualifications in Quantity Surveying or related disciplines are advantageous.
