Position Overview

Emergency Services Officers play a crucial role at Rio Tinto’s Pilbara Mine Operations by delivering emergency response and medical assistance during site incidents. This role supports team safety and operational readiness, offering opportunities for both newcomers and seasoned emergency professionals to develop and advance their careers within a supportive environment.

Work Arrangements

This position operates on an 8 days on, 6 days off, then 7 nights on, 7 nights off roster pattern, with FIFO (fly-in/fly-out) from Perth.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide clinical treatment and respond swiftly to emergencies, maydays, and other incidents.
• Coordinate patient transfers, including medical, hospital, and Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) arrangements.
• Prepare and maintain emergency response equipment, fleet, and resources, including Emergency Response Team (ERT) checks and response planning/testing.
• Conduct mayday drills, alarm and communication system tests.
• Recruit, train, equip, onboard, mentor, and induct ERT members.
• Collaborate with Occupational Health to support fit testing initiatives.
• Manage fire warden responsibilities and organize evacuation drills and preparedness activities.

Qualifications and Experience

• Certificate IV in Health Care (Ambulance).
• Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue or equivalent competencies.
• Certification in Alcohol and Other Drugs Collection.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
• Possession of a National MR class Driver’s License.
• Strong proficiency with computer systems and digital platforms.
• Prior accountability for managing emergency services resources focused on prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.
• Experience in Incident Command, Business Resilience, and familiarity with Rio Tinto’s Emergency Services systems such as the GAP Portal and relevant dashboards is advantageous.
