Role Overview
We are looking for a driven and practical Electrical and Avionics Designer / Liaison to join our team in Calgary. This key role involves delivering expert technical support for avionics systems installation on aircraft as part of new program initiatives with Mid Canada Mod Centre (MC2) and Avionics Design Services (ADS), which recently integrated into DHC.
Key Duties
- Develop designs for avionics and electrical system changes, integrating new components using Autodesk AutoCad software.
- Produce technical diagrams including block diagrams, wiring schematics, and wire routing drawings for new systems.
- Ensure all designs adhere strictly to specifications and relevant aviation regulations such as CAR, FAR, and CS standards.
- Maintain deep knowledge of conventional aircraft electrical architectures and best design practices.
- Optimize designs by balancing various competing criteria for optimum efficiency and effectiveness.
- Enhance existing designs by analyzing available data to boost performance where possible.
- Perform aircraft inspections and surveys to determine optimal modification methods.
- Review technical drawings to verify accuracy and compliance with internal standards.
- Collaborate closely with production technicians and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Clearly communicate design decisions and collaborate effectively within the design and engineering groups.
- Seek expertise from senior engineers when necessary to ensure technical robustness.
Qualification Criteria
- A bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or a closely related field, or equivalent experience sufficient to fulfill the role's key functions.
- At least seven years of experience in aeronautical or aerospace avionics/electrical design. Experience with aftermarket aircraft modifications is considered an advantage.
- Demonstrated proficiency in aircraft electrical system design and strong skills with Autodesk AutoCad software.
- Willingness and availability to travel as needed for the role.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Strong interpersonal skills enabling effective teamwork and clear written and verbal communication.
- Self-motivated with sound technical judgment and responsibility.
- Ability to manage several projects concurrently under tight deadlines.
- Resourceful and adaptable with quick strategic thinking suited to dynamic environments.
