Job Overview
The Design Manager role, situated within the Planning & Design Management stream and reporting to the Director of Infrastructure Planning & Design, will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating multidisciplinary design efforts across assigned projects, packages, or asset categories. This role ensures compliance with briefs, standards, budgets, and schedules throughout project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Senior Management and Senior Design Manager with daily leadership, coordination, and quality assurance of design delivery across all project phases.
- Manage design consultants and technical teams to guarantee integrated, compliant, and high-quality design results.
- Examine and track design submissions for quality, completeness, coordination, and alignment with project requirements before approvals.
- Facilitate resolution of design conflicts, technical queries, constructability concerns, and inter-disciplinary coordination issues.
- Maintain critical design documentation, including trackers, action logs, registers, approval workflows, and technical records to ensure governance and reporting effectiveness.
- Implement standardized design management tools, methodologies, templates, and reporting standards on projects; monitor design progress relative to milestones, schedules, and stage gate goals.
- Coordinate interfaces among various disciplines, infrastructure systems, assets, consultants, stakeholders, and delivery teams to achieve integrated results.
- Identify, monitor, and support mitigation efforts for design-related risks, assumptions, constraints, and dependencies.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, consultants, support divisions, and project teams to promote timely design reviews, approvals, and decisions.
- Ensure consistent, prompt communication of design information across all involved parties.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in design coordination or design management roles.
- Experience collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary design consultants.
- Strong comprehension of design development stages and coordination necessities.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder collaboration capabilities.
