UAE Context
Edenred UAE is a fast-growing payroll services provider serving more than 15,000 businesses and over 2.2 million unbanked employees. It works with more than 10 banks and 35 financial institutions, offering companies a way to manage payroll and employees a simple way to receive and use their salaries through a mobile app with money transfer, mobile recharge, and card services.
Role Overview
The Data Protection Officer will help implement and monitor Edenred Group’s data protection compliance framework in the UAE. The position involves close collaboration with legal, business, operations, and IT teams in a highly regulated international setting. The role serves as a key contact for privacy and data protection matters, supporting compliance with local laws and Group standards while contributing to business growth and innovation.
What You Will Do
- Implement the Group’s data protection compliance programme locally and track progress against the plan.
- Create and follow a local compliance roadmap that addresses Group objectives and closes local gaps.
- Support the rollout of Group data protection tools, especially OneTrust, in the UAE.
- Assist local teams with Group projects launched in the market, including adapting them to local legal requirements.
- Adapt Group policies, procedures, and other documentation for local use.
- Act as a main point of contact for business units on data protection issues within the Group.
- Support privacy-by-design compliance for local initiatives and ensure ongoing adherence over time.
- Draft and maintain privacy documentation such as notices, data processing agreements, consent forms, policies, and procedures, and conduct privacy impact assessments, legitimate interest assessments, and risk reviews when needed.
- Maintain an accurate and current inventory of personal data processing activities in OneTrust.
- Handle data subject requests together with local teams.
- Take part in negotiating data processing agreements with corporate clients and vendors.
- Run awareness initiatives regularly and deliver annual training sessions.
- Work with IT to manage potential personal data incidents in line with Group policies and procedures.
- Serve as a contact point for local regulators and coordinate matters with the Group.
- Track changes in data protection laws, regulations, and standards relevant to the role.
Requirements
- Background in technology law and/or a certification in personal data protection.
- Minimum 3 years of full-time experience in a role with strong exposure to data protection issues, gained in a law firm, multinational company, or Data Protection Authority.
- Deep understanding of personal data regulations, especially the GDPR, and how to apply them.
- Genuine interest in technology and awareness of the business context and challenges in Edenred’s sector; experience in payments, technology, or a regulated environment is an advantage.
- Ability to work flexibly, manage projects with others, and operate effectively in a highly international environment with diverse teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with solid coordination abilities.
- Independent working style, responsiveness, and the ability to assess risks, prioritise actions, and give context-appropriate recommendations.
- Results-driven mindset with the ability to support corporate decision-making.
- Fluent English, written and spoken, for daily communication with overseas teams; additional languages, especially those relevant to the scope, are a strong plus.
Reporting Structure
The successful candidate will report to the Legal and Regulatory Associate and will also work under the functional oversight of the Group Data Protection Officer based in Paris.
