Consultant Neurologist

Job Overview

The Consultant Neurologist is entrusted with delivering top-tier clinical expertise in assessing, diagnosing, and treating neurological and related disorders. This role includes active involvement in quality enhancement initiatives within the department and hospital to fulfill organizational goals.

Core Duties

• Oversee assigned clinics as scheduled by the Medical Director.
• Admit patients under care when indicated, within granted privileges.
• Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments, investigations, and diagnostics, leading to accurate treatment plans and follow-ups.
• Prescribe medications, therapies, or other interventions to treat or prevent disease progression.
• Explain medical procedures and discuss diagnostic outcomes and treatments with patients and authorized representatives.
• Monitor patients’ conditions, re-evaluate and adjust treatments accordingly.
• Refer patients to specialists as needed, and consult with colleagues when requested.
• Perform daily rounds on admitted and referred patients.
• Maintain comprehensive and accurate medical records compliant with hospital policies.
• Authenticate medical documentation through secure login credentials.
• Review and validate junior medical staff documentation for supervised patients.
• Carry out diagnostic or therapeutic procedures within authorized privileges.
• Authorize patient discharge summaries, follow-up plans, and medical reports.
• Assume head of department duties when required.
• Ensure adherence to approved clinical policies, protocols, and guidelines.
• Lead and coordinate medical staff including specialists, residents, nurses, and therapists involved in patient care.
• Advise on departmental policies as part of quality improvement efforts.
• Participate in hospital committees as necessary.
• Uphold Islamic values and medical ethics rigorously.
• Serve on-call in accordance with hospital scheduling policies.
• Respond to emergency codes such as Code Blue promptly.
• Provide medical reports as requested by hospital leadership.
• Report medico-legal cases timely per hospital regulations.
• Engage in clinical and academic hospital activities.
• Educate patients and families on healthy lifestyles and support community health awareness.
• Maintain punctuality and regularity in assigned duties.
• Strictly adhere to all hospital policies and procedures.
• Obtain informed consent for all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Participate and lead person-centered care initiatives.
• Provide orientation and training for undergraduate and postgraduate trainees.
• Contribute actively to personal and departmental educational programs.
• Enhance the patient experience by demonstrating compassion, respect, and dignity.
• Perform other duties as assigned within professional capabilities.

Qualifications

• Medical degree from an accredited medical school recognized by the relevant Medical Council.
• Successful completion of internship and residency programs.
• Postgraduate specialization in neurology or relevant specialty.

Experience

• Minimum of three years of clinical practice in neurology at a tertiary care hospital after postgraduate qualification.
• Subspecialty qualification or structured subspecialty training is preferred.

Licensing and Certification

• Membership, fellowship, or board certification in neurology.
• Valid licensure from the country of origin acceptable to the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties and Ministry of Health.
