Job description

About the Position

The Department of Nuclear Medicine at the University Hospital Würzburg is seeking a part-time Chemical Technical Assistant (CTA) or Research Technician specializing in Radiochemistry with an employment level between 50% and 70%. This role offers practical laboratory involvement in synthesizing, radiolabeling, purifying, analyzing, and ensuring quality control of radiopharmaceuticals.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research group aiming to develop cutting-edge radiopharmaceuticals targeting molecular imaging and radionuclide therapies for various diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular, and inflammatory disorders. The research encompasses diverse molecular types including small molecules, peptides, antibodies, and nanoparticles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Synthesize and purify precursor and reference compounds for radiotracer production
  • Conduct radiolabeling procedures and optimize related protocols
  • Characterize purified products using HPLC, radio-HPLC, TLC, radio-TLC, and other quality control techniques
  • Prepare laboratory reagents, buffers, standards, and materials
  • Assist with preclinical and translational studies involving newly developed radiopharmaceuticals
  • Document, evaluate, and present laboratory and experimental data
  • Maintain and organize laboratory equipment and workspaces ensuring quality assurance
  • Support laboratory management tasks including ordering supplies and inventory maintenance
  • Engage actively in interdisciplinary and collaborative research projects

Required Qualifications

  • Completed vocational training as Chemical Technical Assistant or equivalent laboratory qualification, or
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Radiochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering or a related field
  • Hands-on experience in chemical laboratory practices
  • Meticulous, dependable, well-structured approach to work
  • Capability to work independently following established protocols
  • Willingness to work with radioactive materials following proper safety training
  • Effective collaboration within a multidisciplinary and international team
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with organic synthesis
  • Familiarity with analytical methods such as HPLC and TLC
  • Background in radiochemistry or radionuclide handling
  • Knowledge of radiopharmaceutical development and quality control
  • Experience in molecular imaging, nuclear medicine, pharmaceutical or translational research
  • Understanding of laboratory quality management and documentation procedures
  • Previous exposure to academic or industrial research environments
