Position Overview
Fabuwood is on the lookout for an experienced CAD Production Drafter / Engineer to join their team. This role involves generating precise technical drawings, 3D models, detailed part breakdowns, and machine-ready files essential for manufacturing. Acting as the vital bridge between design and production, the candidate will work in close partnership with project managers, CNC operators, and cabinet makers to convert custom design concepts into quality, production-ready cabinetry products.
Primary Duties
- Develop comprehensive shop drawings, engineering documentation, and part lists derived from architectural plans, field measurements, and conceptual sketches.
- Create and manage machine-ready CNC production files, including DXF files, nested panel layouts, and toolpath-prepared outputs.
- Accurately interpret custom cabinetry and millwork designs into constructible production components.
- Ensure that all drawings are thorough, precise, and comply with manufacturing standards.
- Collaborate with Project Managers, Production Leads, CNC Operators, and Cabinet Makers to confirm design accuracy and feasibility for manufacturing.
- Review drawings and specifications to detect and resolve any design or production challenges prior to fabrication.
- Specify appropriate hardware and accessories using recognized industry systems.
- Maintain drawing archives, manage part databases, and contribute towards standardizing construction practices.
- Engage in design reviews and provide technical support for problem-solving throughout production.
Essential Qualifications
- Between 2 to 5 years of experience in CAD drafting, millwork engineering, production design, or related disciplines.
- Proficient in both 2D and 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD or equivalents.
- Capable of producing detailed, buildable shop drawings from architectural plans and concepts.
- Strong knowledge of cabinet construction methods, custom woodworking techniques, and joinery principles.
- Awareness of CNC manufacturing workflows and panel nesting processes.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Effective communication skills for cross-department collaboration.
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with CNC programming or CAM/Nesting software usage.
- Experience interpreting architectural drawings, including markups and revisions.
- Background in high-end residential or commercial custom cabinetry projects.
- Practical experience in cabinet fabrication or installation.
- Knowledge of hardware specification and installation with brands like BLUM or Häfele.
- Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish are advantageous.
