Job Purpose
The Field Mechanical Technician role at ATE involves mobile, onsite service delivery combining comprehensive mechanical repairs with advanced diagnostic and ADAS calibration tasks. This position supports Crash Champions locations, third-party partners, and retail customers by ensuring effective and safe vehicle repairs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide prompt and accurate ATE support to both internal and external customers.
- Travel daily to assigned service sites using a company vehicle.
- Conduct diagnostics, scanning, programming, calibrations, electrical troubleshooting, wiring and connector repairs, and light to moderate mechanical services.
- Execute mechanical repairs beyond typical mobile ADAS functions, such as suspension, brakes, HVAC/A-C, dash removal, and airbag installation per OEM procedures.
- Inspect engine, drivetrain, cooling systems, and perform post-collision mechanical assessments following manufacturer standards.
- Diagnose, replace, and initialize SRS (airbag) components according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Perform ADAS diagnostics and calibrations once trained and authorized.
- Resolve mechanical root causes while validating electronic vehicle systems.
- Program, code, initialize, and execute safety resets on modules using factory or approved software.
- Carry out EV and hybrid high-voltage energize/de-energize procedures with appropriate training and certification.
- Document all services, calibrations, and mechanical repairs clearly, ensuring compliance with OEM and company policies before execution.
- Perform test drives to verify systems and confirm repair effectiveness.
- Provide excellent customer service through transparent communication, promptness, and professional handling of concerns.
- Complete repair documentation, scan reports, and billing accurately before departure from service locations.
- Meet recognized productivity, quality, and compliance standards.
- Maintain and secure company tools, equipment, PPE, and vehicles appropriately.
- Keep up-to-date with ATE and OEM procedures via required training and education.
- Participate actively in team meetings and training sessions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of 4 years of hands-on automotive mechanical experience, including a broader scope involving mechanical and safety-critical repairs beyond calibration-only roles.
- Completion of I-CAR Platinum Level 3 certification within 90 days of hire and scheduling ASE certification within the same timeframe.
- Proficient understanding of light to moderate mechanical repairs, ADAS, electrical systems, diagnostic tools, programming, and calibrations.
- Experienced in suspension, brake, HVAC, dash removal, airbag installation, and post-collision mechanical inspections.
- Ability to diagnose and repair Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) components according to OEM standards.
- Competent use of electrical diagnostic equipment including multimeters, power probes, and resistors.
- Skilled in interpreting vehicle health scans using factory and approved non-factory tools.
- Ability to read and understand OEM and aftermarket service manuals, repair protocols, and wiring diagrams.
- Experience in vehicle module programming and coding using factory or authorized software.
- Preferred EV and hybrid vehicle high-voltage certification or willingness to obtain it.
- Clear, professional verbal and written communication skills to explain technical diagnoses and service suggestions.
- Technologically adept with tools such as Outlook, Teams, Word, and service documentation platforms.
- Strong personal work ethic with urgency, self-motivation, accountability, and professional representation of ATE.
- Committed to continuous learning and technical skill development.
- Comfortable working independently in dynamic automotive environments.
- Availability for rotating Saturdays (approximately every other Saturday, 9 AM to 12 PM or as scheduled) and flexible scheduling to maintain market coverage.
- Willingness and ability to travel daily to local or regional service locations in a company-provided vehicle.
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds independently and maneuver loads up to 100 pounds with assistance or mechanical tools.
- Capability to push, pull, and position heavy vehicle parts using correct techniques and shop equipment.
- Able to stand, bend, kneel and work extended periods in shop conditions.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

- Hourly pay ranging from $23.80 to $42.50 USD, reflecting experience, certifications, and qualifications.
