Job description
Role Overview
Synlait Milk Limited is seeking a diligent and proactive finance professional to join their Finance team at the Dunsandel, Canterbury location as an Assistant Accountant focusing on Accounts Receivable. This position involves overseeing customer accounts, managing credit risks, facilitating timely cash collections, and ensuring the accuracy of receivables reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately and promptly process customer invoices, credit notes, and other receivable transactions.
- Keep track of customer accounts, pursue outstanding payments, and aid in efficient cash collection efforts.
- Perform credit evaluations, handle customer master data, and assist in credit risk management.
- Generate Accounts Receivable reports including ageing analysis and bad debt/impairment summaries.
- Support month-end closing tasks such as reconciliations, journal entries, and balance sheet assessments.
- Collaborate closely with Sales, Commercial, and Finance departments to resolve account queries and enhance collection results.
- Drive improvements in processes, systems, and controls surrounding Accounts Receivable functions.
- Assist with audit procedures and maintain adherence to company policies and financial governance standards.
Required Skills & Experience
- Degree qualification in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Two to three years of experience in accounting or finance support roles.
- Strong grasp of financial accounting principles and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Advanced Excel capabilities and experience in financial reporting and analytical tasks.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with a talent for building business relationships.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Accounts Receivable and credit management processes.
- Experience in sectors like dairy, manufacturing, or FMCG.
- Proficiency with ERP software applications.
- Progress towards or attainment of professional accounting certifications such as CA or CPA.
- Deep understanding of customer account management and risk evaluation.
