About MODE
MODE is a multidisciplinary architectural design practice with 35 years of experience creating better environments for communities, clients, and partners across New Zealand and Australia. With a network of 9 studios, the firm works closely with local communities and city contexts, resulting in projects that are varied, site-responsive, and distinctive to each place and team.
The team operates across a broad range of sectors, including open space and urban design, sport and recreation, residential, commercial and aviation, health and aged care, education, infrastructure, defence, and law and order.
Role Overview
MODE is seeking an Architectural Graduate to join its Auckland team in a full-time, permanent role. The position involves working within a collaborative architectural environment on projects across New Zealand and Australia.
What the Role Involves
Architectural Graduates work closely with their assigned manager and under the guidance of the project Senior Architect. The role requires strong collaboration with project teams to help deliver high-quality design, documentation, and construction outcomes. You may also support and mentor architecture students where appropriate, while helping the team meet deadlines and project needs.
Profile and Responsibilities
- Hold an accredited architectural qualification recognised in New Zealand, Australia, or the UK, or an equivalent credential.
- Bring at least 2 years of post-graduate professional experience.
- Demonstrate strong ability in design, documentation, coordination, and construction detailing.
- Have working knowledge of Revit and BIM, along with experience handling projects and client relationships.
- Understand National Competency Standards, Building Codes, and the standards relevant to project locations.
- Communicate clearly, work well with others, use sound judgment, and take a proactive, solutions-driven approach that supports client satisfaction.
- Create innovative, compliant design solutions and documentation across all project stages while keeping up with current industry practices.
- Help manage project outcomes in relation to time, cost, and quality, while coordinating teams and supporting junior colleagues.
Why Join MODE
You will be paid for a 37.5-hour full-time work week, leaving more time outside the studio. MODE offers a collaborative, design-led culture where creativity, knowledge sharing, and strong design outcomes are valued.
The studio network spans New Zealand and Australia, creating opportunities to work on varied projects and potentially move between locations. Professional development is supported through structured mentoring, career growth pathways, internal and external learning opportunities, and study leave for approved professional development and registration requirements.
Additional benefits include a referral bonus for successful introductions of new employees, along with a connected studio culture that includes social events, team celebrations, and opportunities to build long-term professional relationships.
Application Notes
Applicants who do not meet every requirement are still encouraged to apply. Candidates should submit a cover letter, CV, and portfolio. Only those selected for interview will be contacted, and interviews will be held immediately. Proof of eligibility to work will be requested during the application process.
