About the Role
CONVERGIX Automation Solutions is looking for a driven Automation Applications Engineer to join its expanding team. The position is based in Southern Ireland and can be carried out fully remotely. In this role, you will evaluate customer needs, shape the technical solution, estimate costs, and prepare the project timeline and proposal for custom automation systems.

What You Will Do
- Work with customers to define requirements, develop concepts, estimate costs, and present proposals.
- Partner with sales colleagues to support the overall pursuit and win strategy.
- Take ownership of the complete proposal process, including concept creation, technical solution design, costing, and proposal delivery.
- Collaborate with sales and management to align on technical direction.
- Present solutions to customers and clearly explain the advantages of the proposed approach.
- Support the internal proposal team and associated workflows.
- Record technical requirements, project risks, plans, and change-control steps.
- Contribute in a technical advisory capacity when needed.
- Communicate with customers at different levels as required.
- Ensure a smooth transition to operations for maintenance and troubleshooting after handover.
- Use the company’s standardized quoting and presentation methods, including capture plans, executive reviews, customer reviews, proposal templates, cost worksheets, CAD tools, compliance matrices, and FAT/SAT criteria.
- Help improve proposals by using technical writers and dedicated simulation/CAD resources where helpful.
- Leverage shared knowledge across the business through reference machines and collaboration tools such as SharePoint and MS Teams.
Requirements
- HND or degree in Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in the automation industry, preferably in Life Sciences.
- Background in quoting, sales support, and direct customer interaction.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical design drawings and customer part prints.
- Experience creating 2D CAD concepts and working with 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Inventor, or Visual Components.
- Proven ability to work with project teams and customers to design and estimate complete systems.
- Strong understanding of cost drivers such as timelines, materials, labor, and tooling.
- Preference for candidates with knowledge of electrical and pneumatic control architectures.
