Overview
Join Hutt City Council as the AI Adoption & Automation Lead for a fixed-term contract of 12 months, located in Lower Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand. This role places you at the forefront of integrating Artificial Intelligence and intelligent automation within public service to enhance customer experience, productivity, and operational decision-making with responsible governance.
Role Description
Reporting directly to the Director of Transformation, you will collaborate across departments to foster an AI-enabled sustainable organization delivering improved community outcomes. Your leadership will ensure AI solutions are safely embedded, governed effectively, and widely embraced by staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the adoption process of AI and intelligent automation initiatives throughout the Council.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the Council’s AI Governance Framework.
- Identify, evaluate, and prioritize AI opportunities that enhance services and performance.
- Build organizational AI capability through training, coaching, and hands-on guidance.
- Establish AI Champion groups and communities of practice to facilitate AI adoption.
- Track and report on benefits realization, usage metrics, costs, and ROI of AI projects.
- Stay informed on emerging AI technologies and suggest relevant innovations aligned with Council objectives.
- Collaborate with business leaders and key departments such as Information Services, Management, Privacy, and Security to ensure valuable AI delivery.
Applicant Profile
- Proven experience in digital transformation, business improvement, or organizational change leadership.
- In-depth knowledge of AI and intelligent automation applications in business contexts.
- Expertise in developing governance, risk management or assurance frameworks.
- Skills in opportunity identification, business case development, and demonstrating measurable business value.
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and facilitation abilities.
- Capacity to simplify complex technical information into accessible language.
- A collaborative, curious, and customer-centric approach with enthusiasm for enabling transformative change.
Preferred Experience: Local government experience, familiarity with Microsoft Copilot, Power Platform, benefits realization methodologies, or portfolio management is advantageous.
