Core Responsibilities
- Apply agricultural science to enhance existing predictive models and propose new product ideas.
- Convert biological knowledge into data-driven hypotheses suited for machine learning evaluation.
- Guide model development to ensure biological accuracy and interpret model behaviors for improvements.
- Design and conduct research experiments aimed at expanding model capabilities.
- Identify and define new data, measurements, and validation protocols to improve predictive accuracy.
- Stay informed on emerging agricultural research to evaluate relevance and integration into products.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, data operations, product managers, and customer teams to align scientific and product goals.
- Build relationships with external researchers to support scientific initiatives.
Success Criteria
- Develop a thorough understanding of predictive systems, data infrastructure, and modelling techniques.
- Establish trusted partnerships across multidisciplinary teams.
- Identify and drive opportunities where agricultural science enhances product performance.
- Influence technical and product decisions through scientific insights.
- Define and support new data collection and experimentation strategies.
- Integrate scientific reasoning effectively within the product development process.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- MSc or PhD in Agricultural Science, Agronomy, Animal Science, Plant Science, or related field.
- Proven experience applying agricultural science to practical challenges.
- Comprehensive knowledge of grazing systems and agricultural production.
- Expertise in designing, executing, and analyzing scientific studies.
- Exceptional ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse teams.
- Competence in influencing decisions through expertise rather than formal authority.
Highly Desired Skills
- Experience interfacing with data science, predictive modelling, or machine learning.
- Background in ag-tech or precision agriculture sectors.
- Strong analytical and quantitative capabilities.
- Handling large datasets to support scientific inquiry.
- Collaborative experience with software engineering and product development teams.
- Knowledge of remote sensing, sensor technology, or digital agriculture.
Additional Advantages
- Experience working in technology startups or commercial companies.
- Scientific publications or notable technical contributions.
- Existing connections within the agricultural research community.
