Wireless Technician or Mobile Rigger

Role overview

Ventia is looking for an experienced Wireless Technician / Mobile Rigger to support its telecommunications operations across the South Island, with the base location in Christchurch. This is a practical, field-based position centered on tower rigging, mobile site upgrades, and ongoing maintenance of cell infrastructure.

What you will do

• Carry out climbing and rigging work on telecom towers and poles.
• Install, upgrade, and maintain mobile cell site infrastructure.
• Work with telecommunications hardware from Nokia, Ericsson, and Huawei.
• Complete installations and connections while working at height.
• Support tower enhancements, structural installation work, and new site builds.
• Investigate faults and perform maintenance tasks to restore service.
• Operate cranes, rigging equipment, and mobile plant safely and correctly.
• Read basic RF diagrams and technical drawings to support work planning.
• Collaborate effectively with team members across multiple locations.

What Ventia is looking for

Applicants should bring strong tower-rigging and climbing experience, ideally from the telecommunications sector. The ideal candidate is confident working at height, technically capable, and comfortable contributing in a team-oriented field environment.

Experience and technical strengths

• Background in telecommunications rigging or mobile tower work.
• Comfort and confidence climbing structures and working at height.
• Exposure to Nokia, Ericsson, or Huawei systems and equipment.
• Hands-on experience with cranes, rigging systems, and mobile plant.
• Ability to troubleshoot issues and solve problems effectively.
• Working knowledge of RF concepts and diagram interpretation.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and practical technical skills.
• Commitment to safety and effective teamwork.

Additional information

Fibre splicing experience is not required for this opportunity.
