Role overview

Humankind is looking for a Visual Artist to join its creative team in Art, TX. In this role, you will partner with other artists and cross-functional teammates on a variety of projects spanning different media, helping shape the broader Humankind world through characters, stories, and settings.

What you’ll do

• Create lively, engaging, and imaginative characters and environments for the Humankind universe.
• Sketch freely and regularly as part of the creative process.
• Explain your ideas, working process, and artistic choices clearly to teammates from different functions.
• Develop rough concepts into refined, production-ready artwork.
• Adapt and extend an existing design system so artwork stays consistent across multiple formats and media.
• Collaborate closely with product and marketing teams to meet their needs and goals.

What we’re looking for

• At least 2 years of professional experience as a comic artist, illustrator, or concept artist.
• Strong command of core concept art principles, including anatomy, composition, lighting, color theory, and perspective.
• A portfolio that demonstrates character design and environment-focused concept art, ideally showing strong work from previous projects.
• Comfort working independently with minimal oversight while still staying aligned with the team.
• Excellent attention to detail, with an understanding that small choices can meaningfully affect the final result.
• A growth mindset, with enthusiasm for learning from others and sharing knowledge in return.
• Enjoyment of collaborating with artists, designers, and other creatives in a mutually supportive environment.
