Role overview
University College Cork is seeking a Scholarly Communications Librarian for UCC Library. This is a permanent, full-time position within the Research Services team. The post sits at the heart of the Library’s support for Open Research and offers room to influence service development and policy work at both university and national level.
Core focus
The role takes responsibility for UCC’s scholarly communications activity, including participation in the IReL Open Access agreements, the growth of CORA, the institutional repository, and UCC’s publishing activity through UCC Journals.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee UCC’s involvement in the IReL Open Access agreements, including monitoring usage and serving as the primary contact for IReL, publishers and authors.
- Drive the ongoing development of CORA and ensure it works effectively with Pure.
- Support researchers with open access publishing decisions, copyright questions and compliance with funder requirements.
- Contribute to reporting on Open Access and APCs, and coordinate the institutional Research Impact Group.
- Build and improve bibliometrics and research impact services, aligned with responsible metrics such as DORA.
- Champion Open Research through outreach, promotion, advocacy and training.
- Supervise and guide two Senior Library Assistants.
Candidate profile
The university is looking for someone with a Level 9 qualification in Librarianship and Information Studies, or an equivalent qualification, or someone who has made substantial progress toward completing it. The successful candidate should understand key issues in scholarly communications, including open access, repositories, copyright and research data management.
Essential experience and skills
Applicants should be comfortable working with repositories, research information systems, persistent identifiers and metadata. Experience of working with stakeholders and providing support tailored to their needs is important, as is a background in staff management and development. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, along with confidence in training delivery and presentations.
