About the company

Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions is an international supplier of equipment, tools, spare parts, service, and technical solutions for mining and infrastructure work. Its applications span rock drilling, rock cutting, loading and hauling, tunnelling, and quarrying. The company is also listed among the Forbes Top 50 Global Employers.

Role overview

The Quality Control Officer is accountable for making sure products and processes consistently meet the required standards. The role covers inspections before, during, and after repairs at the main workshop and subcontractor workshops, along with spotting defects, deviations from dimensional standards, and procedural gaps. Findings must be recorded and escalated so the business remains aligned with internal and regulatory expectations.

This position is central to protecting product quality, lowering defect rates, and driving continuous improvement across the production floor. It includes dimensional, visual, and functional checks at multiple stages of component and equipment repair and assembly, including fabrication, welding, spray painting, stripping, final assembly, and testing.

Quality responsibilities

  • Help implement and sustain the Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Keep quality records up to date, including NCRs and corrective action tracking logs.
  • Confirm that company procedures, policies, and customer specifications are followed without exception.
  • Evaluate and approve quality control plans and technical procedures against the relevant standards.
  • Maintain complete traceability of parts and work processes throughout all repair and production stages.
  • Carry out incoming, in-process, and final inspections to confirm compliance with drawings and technical specifications.
  • Use suitable tools and equipment to perform dimensional, visual, and functional tests.
  • Read and apply technical drawings, GD&T symbols, and fabrication or assembly specifications.
  • Perform both scheduled and unscheduled tests in line with SOPs and applicable industry standards.
  • Detect, record, and escalate defects, deviations, and non-conformances.
  • Create NCRs and monitor corrective actions through to closure.
  • Work with production teams and suppliers to solve quality issues and strengthen processes.
  • Contribute to audits and improvement projects, including upgrades to testing methods and systems.

Candidate profile

  • A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial, or in Quality Management or another relevant technical discipline.
  • Exposure to ISO 9001:2015 introduction, implementation, and internal auditing is an advantage.
  • At least 3 years of experience in quality control or quality assurance in a manufacturing environment, ideally within industrial or heavy equipment operations.
  • Knowledge of environmental management, sustainability efforts, environmental compliance, CSR, HSE/HSEQ, and ESG reporting is beneficial.
  • Hands-on familiarity with quality tools and techniques such as SPC, FMEA, 8D, and Six Sigma.
  • Strong grasp of quality control laws, regulations, and related frameworks.
  • Medical and physical fitness to work in a mine environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills for reporting and cross-functional coordination.
  • Ability to work effectively in a matrix organisation.
