About the Role
AltaLink is seeking a Project Controls Analyst to support its Direct Assign project portfolios in Calgary. This role sits within a matrixed environment and reports to the Manager of Project Controls. The position focuses on maintaining financial project data, partnering with internal teams such as Project Management, Regulatory, Siting, Land, Scheduling, Cost Engineering, Accounting, and Business Analysis, and coordinating with external consultants, contractors, and EPC service providers when required.
The analyst helps ensure that transactions tied to Direct Assign projects are recorded correctly and that project procedures are followed. Responsibilities
- Create work breakdown structures to support project setup in SAP.
- Handle financial control activities for project setup, estimating, forecasting, invoicing, and project closure.
- Perform risk reviews and cost analysis alongside project estimates.
- Evaluate project cost performance, update forecasts, flag budget and milestone risks, and track corrective actions.
- Prepare monthly status updates for project and program reviews, AESO reporting, and customer-facing feedback.
- Review change notices to confirm alignment with AltaLink processes and regulatory requirements at both project and program levels.
- Work in line with AltaLink’s cultural pillars: teamwork, continuous improvement, customer focus, and personal accountability.
Requirements
- A post-secondary degree or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience.
- At least 3 years of related experience managing projects up to $100M or around 10 moderately complex substation projects.
- Demonstrated capability in the responsibilities listed above.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office and SAP modules including Finance, Controlling, Project Systems, Materials Management, and Plant Maintenance.
- Background in accounting practices and GAAP within a regulated environment.
- Clear oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of accounting practices in a regulated utility setting.
- Ability to identify process improvements and recommend practical solutions.
- Comfort working with diverse teams under tight timelines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with team members and customers.
- Good organization and time-management capabilities.
- Ability to adapt to shifting priorities while maintaining effectiveness.
- Consistent delivery of accurate, high-quality work.
- Experience quickly extracting and manipulating data from multiple sources to produce required reports.
- EPC or EPCm experience is preferred.
- Strong history of dependable attendance and solid performance.
