Laboratory Assistant (Float)

About the role

Dynacare is hiring a Laboratory Assistant (Float) in North York, Ontario. This role supports laboratory and health services operations by processing bloodwork and other specimens, entering requisitions and results accurately, and helping patients have a positive experience during what can often be a stressful visit.

The position is permanent and part-time, with a guaranteed 15 hours per week. Shifts are during the day and may run from 6:45 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Saturday. The float assignment covers Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Toronto, and Markham. There are 2 openings available, and the role is for an existing vacancy. The expected start is as soon as possible.

What you will do

• Provide a calm, caring, and professional customer experience for patients and visitors.
• Enter patient, requisition, and test information accurately and on time.
• Collect blood samples and other specimens using strong venipuncture skills.
• Handle a range of collection tasks, including ECGs, Holter hookups, paternity testing, urine collection, drug screening, and breath alcohol collection.
• Prepare specimens and supporting documents according to standard operating procedures so they are ready for entry and transport to the lab.
• Follow established processes for both acceptable and unsuitable samples.
• Protect confidential information and maintain secure handling practices.
• Support quality measures, regulatory compliance, and departmental performance indicators.

What you bring

• Secondary School completion plus a Laboratory Assistant training program or a Medical Lab Assistant course with specialized phlebotomy training.
• Strong customer service focus and genuine concern for patient well-being.
• Practical phlebotomy ability, including comfort working with anxious patients in a reassuring manner.
• Good self-management and the ability to prioritize in a deadline-driven setting.
• High attention to detail.
• Strong English communication skills, both spoken and written, to give instructions clearly and understandably.

Additional information

Pay is between $21.00 and $24.75 per hour. Final compensation will depend on several factors, including experience and education.
