Role Summary
This is a full-time Human Resources Coordinator position based in San Diego, with a mostly remote setup and occasional onsite work in Mission Valley as needed. The role follows a Monday through Friday schedule and is centered on delivering a positive employee experience while keeping HR operations organized and compliant.
The position suits an HR professional who enjoys problem-solving, employee support, and a varied workload. Responsibilities span the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, leave administration, employee relations, compliance, and general HR operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a reliable first point of contact for employees with HR-related questions and concerns.
- Handle onboarding, job changes, and exit processes for employees.
- Administer leaves of absence, including FMLA, CFRA, and other legally protected leaves.
- Assist with employee relations issues while ensuring alignment with California labor regulations.
- Process unemployment requests, employment verification requests, and workers’ compensation-related paperwork.
- Keep employee files and HR systems current, using platforms such as Paylocity, CentralReach, and Workable.
- Work with leadership to maintain and improve HR policies, procedures, forms, and the employee handbook.
- Support corrective action procedures and advise managers on HR matters.
- Prepare reports, review personnel files for accuracy, and look for ways to improve HR workflows.
- Help ensure compliance with HIPAA and all relevant federal, state, and local employment requirements.
- Contribute to additional HR initiatives and projects as the organization expands.
Required Background
The employer is seeking someone with at least 2 years of progressive HR experience. A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related area is preferred. PHR or SPHR certification is also preferred.
Applicants should have a strong working knowledge of California employment law and established HR practices, along with experience in employee relations and leave administration. Familiarity with HRIS tools such as Paylocity, CentralReach, Workable, or comparable systems is important.
Strong organization, communication, and problem-solving abilities are essential. The role also requires discretion, professionalism, and comfort working in a busy environment where priorities can change quickly.
Additional Requirements
- Must hold a valid California driver’s license.
- Reliable transportation and an insurable driving record are required.
- Must be able to pass DOJ/FBI fingerprint clearance.
- Candidate must be committed to HIPAA compliance and strict confidentiality.
- Completion of required health, safety, and compliance training is expected.
- Must be available to work onsite in Mission Valley occasionally based on business needs.
Compensation and Benefits
The role pays $28 per hour and is offered as a full-time hybrid position with approximately 90% remote work. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, a 401(k) plan, PTO, and additional offerings.
