About the company
Johnson & Johnson is a global healthcare company focused on advancing innovation across medicines and medical technology. The organization emphasizes an inclusive workplace where people are respected as individuals and diversity is valued.
Role overview
The Export Control Analyst will support global trade compliance activity for DePuy Synthes by helping ensure that products, technologies, and data are moved across borders in line with applicable export control laws and regulations. The role contributes to compliant international trade and supports supply chain and commercial operations in a regulated medical technology setting. It is designed for someone at an early stage of their career who wants to develop specialized export control expertise.
Key responsibilities
- Handle routine export control tasks such as screening, classification, and transaction checks to verify compliance with relevant rules.
- Support the categorization of products, parts, software, and technical data under export control frameworks, including UK, EU, and U.S. regimes.
- Examine export paperwork and commercial transactions to spot compliance risks and raise concerns when needed.
- Keep records and supporting documents accurate and organized for audits, internal checks, and regulatory questions.
- Help maintain and roll out export control policies, procedures, and internal safeguards.
- Work with Supply Chain, Procurement, Engineering, and Commercial colleagues to provide guidance and solve export compliance issues.
- Track changes in export control regulations and assist with evaluating how those changes affect the business.
- Support training, awareness building, and ongoing improvement efforts within the trade compliance team.
Qualifications and experience
A bachelor’s degree is required in Business, International Trade, Supply Chain, Law, Engineering, or a related discipline. Study or concentration in international trade compliance, logistics, or regulatory affairs is preferred.
Applicants should typically have 2 to 4 years of relevant experience in export controls, trade compliance, supply chain, or a related analytical or regulatory role. A basic understanding of export control principles and regulatory frameworks is needed, along with confidence using Microsoft Office and working with data and documentation systems.
Preferred strengths
Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, the ability to follow structured processes, and clear written and verbal communication are all valued. Prior exposure to export control or trade compliance work in a global or regulated environment, familiarity with UK, EU, and/or U.S. regulations, and experience collaborating with supply chain, logistics, or engineering teams would be an advantage. Experience with classification tools or trade compliance systems is also helpful, and a long-term interest in global trade compliance is desirable.
Additional requirements
English is mandatory. Additional European languages are considered beneficial. Limited travel may be required, generally less than 10%. Export compliance or trade compliance certifications are preferred but not compulsory.
Business update
Johnson & Johnson has announced plans to separate its Orthopaedics business into a standalone company operating as DePuy Synthes. The separation is expected to take 18 to 24 months and depends on legal requirements, consultation with works councils or other employee representative bodies where required, regulatory approvals, and other customary conditions. If hired, the employee is anticipated to transition to DePuy Synthes after the transaction closes, and employment terms would then follow DePuy Synthes processes, policies, programs, and benefit plans, with any planned changes communicated at the appropriate time and subject to consultation processes.
Equal opportunity and accommodations
The employer provides equal employment opportunities and considers qualified applicants without discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or other legally protected characteristics. The company also supports an inclusive interview process and offers accommodation support for applicants with disabilities.
