Overview
Hammond Lumber Company is hiring a Drafter & CAD Designer for its Portland, Maine location. The company notes that it was recognized as one of Maine's best workplaces in 2025.
What You’ll Do
- Translate customers’ residential design ideas into accurate drawings using SoftPlan.
- Partner with the sales team so design work and estimates are completed on schedule.
- Work directly with customers to spot design concerns and resolve them as they come up.
- Build strong customer relationships by providing consistently high-quality service.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with engineers, architects, and contractors throughout the design and construction process.

Requirements
- Two years of CAD experience is preferred.
- Experience with SoftPlan software is an advantage.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a busy, fast-moving workplace.
- Comfortable interacting with the public.
