The company operates from branches in Cork, Dunboyne, and the United Kingdom, and sources materials globally from Great Britain, Europe, Asia, and North America.
As international trade rules continue to evolve, including EU customs requirements, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), quota safeguards, and changing USA and international tariff structures, the business is creating a Customs & Commodities Agent role to support compliance, documentation accuracy, and cost-effective duty management.
This opportunity suits a customs professional who has handled tariff calculations, import paperwork, and supporting schedules, and who can help ensure that all Irish and EU customs obligations are met.
Key responsibilities

- Check customs SAD documents prepared by external clearing agents to confirm they are complete, accurate, and aligned with current Irish and EU legislation.
- Apply the correct commodity codes, duties, and carbon-related charges at import and at goods receipting stage.
- Keep ERP commodity codes and product weights accurate and regularly reviewed so classifications and valuations remain correct.
- Support sales teams with questions about duty, tariff, and CBAM cost implications.
- Calculate and apply CBAM rates correctly on all qualifying import orders.
- Review and update ERP source data so CBAM compliance and costing are calculated properly.
- Collect, verify, and store commercial and shipping documents such as commercial invoices, certificates of origin, and packing lists for cross-functional use.
- Coordinate payment of duties and taxes, including monitoring TAN accounts or other deferred payment arrangements.
- Maintain Intrastat and CBAM records, along with reconciliations between supplier commodity codes and EU/I Irish codes, including explanations for any differences.
- Ensure commodity code data is aligned between the UK and Irish branches.
- Archive legislative and customs records so they are ready for future customs audits.
Requirements
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
- At least 2 to 3 years of customs clearance experience in Ireland.
- Good working knowledge of Irish Revenue guidance as it applies to customs clearance.
- Excellent planning, organisation, and multitasking skills, with strong attention to detail, particularly for VAT and duty payments.
- Understanding of bonded warehouse procedures and the supporting documents required.
- Confident stakeholder communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships internally and externally.
- Comfort using ERP platforms and Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability to work on your own initiative and contribute to process improvements.
- Willingness to handle both operational and administrative work.
- Working knowledge of import and export customs procedures.
- Understanding of customs flows and documentary requirements.
- Knowledge of Incoterms and tariff classification principles.
- Familiarity with EUR1 movement certificates, origin rules, certificates of origin, invoice declarations, approved supplier status, and REX requirements.
