About the Role

Sigsbee Charter School in Key West, Florida is seeking a dependable Custodian/Facilities team member to join its staff. The school emphasizes hiring highly qualified professionals to support students and offers a competitive salary along with a living allowance. Full-time staff are eligible for a $1,000 per month living allowance during the 2026-2027 school year. The instructional salary scale and paraprofessional scale are aligned with the Monroe County School District.

Schedule

Standard working hours for this position are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Key Duties

• Carry out routine custodial work such as dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and replenishing paper and soap supplies.
• Keep custodial equipment and supplies in good working condition through regular upkeep.
• Collect trash, empty receptacles, move waste to compactors or dumpsters, and prepare bags for proper disposal.
• Open and secure doors as needed, making sure areas are locked after cleaning.
• Communicate facility concerns to the appropriate staff, including recommending or submitting work orders and monitoring supply inventory.
• Use equipment and supplies responsibly while supporting safe work practices and environmentally sound procedures.
• Complete cleaning tasks for specific facilities and for seasonal or project-based needs.
• Provide vendors access to cleaning areas when required, answer simple questions, and escalate vendor-related concerns to the Facilities Manager.
• Help with light landscaping and minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, moving or adjusting furniture, and similar work.
• Handle other related duties as assigned by management.

Physical Demands

This role involves very heavy physical work. It may require exerting over 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and more than 20 pounds constantly to move objects. The job can also involve standing, walking, climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions.

Requirements

A valid driver's license and a high school diploma or equivalent are required.

Compensation & Allowance

This position comes with competitive pay and a living allowance. Full-time staff will receive a $1,000 monthly living allowance in the 2026-2027 school year.
