Construction Safety Officer

Role Overview

Sunda International is looking for a Construction Safety Officer to oversee day-to-day site safety at its Weija-Gbawe Municipal District location in Greater Accra, Ghana. Key Responsibilities

• Carry out regular inspections of the construction site to spot unsafe conditions, hazards, and gaps in controls.
• Make sure workers and site activities follow company HSE standards, safety procedures, and all relevant legal requirements.
• Check that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is being used correctly and consistently by all personnel.
• Run safety inductions, toolbox meetings, and ongoing awareness sessions for site teams.
• Review accidents, incidents, and near-miss events, then propose practical corrective and preventive actions.
• Keep accurate safety logs, inspection notes, incident reports, and other compliance records.
• Assist with risk assessments and help put preventive controls into practice.
• Encourage a positive safety mindset and support a strong culture of safe work on site.

Requirements

• A diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Construction, or a related discipline.
• At least 2 years of experience handling safety management on construction sites.
• Good understanding of construction safety rules and accepted HSE practices.
• Certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or a similar qualification is an advantage.
• Strong ability to identify hazards, solve problems, and communicate clearly with teams.
• Comfortable using Microsoft Office and preparing safety-related reports.
• Able to perform effectively in a busy, fast-moving construction setting.
