Role overview
This is an opportunity for a Registered Nurse or Midwife to take on a meaningful community-based role within the Berkshire East Immunisation Team. The post is full-time and focuses on supporting school vaccination programmes and community clinics across Slough, Bracknell Forest, and the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, including Ascot.
You will work as part of a collaborative and progressive team that is dedicated to delivering excellent care, widening access to immunisation, and protecting local communities.
Work locations and travel
The role involves travelling throughout East Berkshire to schools, clinics, community venues, and agreed vaccine bases. During school holidays, you will support vaccination clinics, outreach activity, project work, community events, and targeted initiatives aimed at reducing health inequalities. Annual leave may be taken at any time during the year, depending on service requirements. You may also be asked to help in some West locality areas during school breaks, including Wokingham and Reading.
Main duties
- Provide safe, welcoming, and effective vaccination sessions for children, young people, and eligible adults in school, community, and outreach settings.
- Apply clinical judgement to review consent details, confirm eligibility, and administer vaccines safely in accordance with national guidance, Patient Group Directions, and Trust procedures.
- Develop strong working relationships with children, young people, families, schools, GPs, local authorities, and partner organisations through clear, sensitive, and compassionate communication.
- Support the organisation and delivery of smooth clinics, including vaccine collection, maintenance of the cold chain, stock management, session setup, and accurate record keeping.
- Identify and escalate clinical issues, risks, or incidents without delay, including the ability to respond appropriately in emergencies such as anaphylaxis.
- Promote vaccine uptake through health education, community engagement, follow-up clinics, and activities that help address health inequalities.
- Maintain high-quality documentation, contribute to data accuracy, audits, team learning, meetings, and continuous service improvement.
