About the role
This is a practical, varied Studio Assistant position supporting the production team and helping the studio operate smoothly day to day. The role suits someone who is genuinely interested in photography and production, enjoys being organised and hands-on, and likes being involved in a busy creative environment.
The work is broad and can include helping on shoots, looking after equipment, building and painting sets, preparing studio spaces, and assisting with photography and video productions. It is a collaborative role where no two days are the same, and where attention to detail, initiative, and a willingness to get involved are essential.
Key responsibilities
- Support producers with shoot coordination, including schedules, equipment, and related tasks.
- Provide practical assistance during shoots, including set, equipment, and prop bump-in and bump-out.
- Handle deliveries and liaise with couriers and vendors when required.
- Track, care for, and maintain equipment and props so everything is accounted for.
- Paint and finish sets to a high standard.
- Assist with assembling and constructing sets, including prop setup.
- Support the production crew with general on-set tasks.
- Run errands such as collecting supplies, props, and food.
- Help keep the studio tidy, orderly, and safe.
Experience and skills
The ideal candidate will have some background through education, work experience, or internships in production, studio work, photography, or set building. They should be comfortable managing several tasks at once, communicating clearly, and building good working relationships.
Success in this role also depends on being able to work both independently and as part of a team, showing creativity, paying close attention to detail, and being keen to learn. A strong ability to adapt in a fast-moving environment is important. Working knowledge of Photoshop and Capture One is also required.
Working conditions
This is an onsite role based in South Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The position may require working beyond standard hours when needed.
